Art is a “special” that is taught by the homeroom teachers in the classroom.
The preschool classroom environment naturally incorporates many different aspects of art throughout its lessons and classroom centers. However, the designated “art” block is used to formally teach specific elements of design (line, color, shape, form, texture, value, & perspective).
As children learn about the different elements of art, they are gently guided through creating unique pieces of art.
As they become more familiar with the different elements of design (typically in pre-kindergarten) they will gradually be introduced into aspects of art history.
Through the history, they are given the opportunity to experiment with different styles from the artist they have studied.
