Event Descriptions 2016-2017

NEW PARENTS’ NIGHT (1st Thurs in Sept) is for ALL parents whose children start at Davenport in the summer or fall (childcare is not provided).  This evening is very informative as Ms. Pucillo and Ms. Harlan review a lot of basic school information as well as teach parents about Davenport’s school wide behavior modification program (1-2-3 MAGIC!). The evening is also a great opportunity to ask any other logistical questions that parents may have after the first two weeks of school.

ALL SCHOOL PARENTS’ NIGHT (3rd Thurs in Sept) is for all parents, new and returning (childcare is not provided).  During this night, the entire school first meets as a group before parents spend the rest of the night in their child’s classroom with their teachers. Parents learn about the upcoming school year, weekly schedule, class expectations, curriculum, etc.  There will also be a fun activity for all parents to do for their child.

Our THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION (Wed before Thanksgiving) is an adorable schoolwide event in which the children showcase what they are thankful for. It begins with a short performance by the children in the Great Hall. Once it is finished, families are invited to return to the classroom with their children for a small Thanksgiving activity and/or special treat. School then closes at noon.

SNACK WITH SANTA (2nd Thurs in Dec) is a way for Davenport children to give back to others in need.  One of Davenport’s core philosophies centers around community service and providing help to organizations that have children with different needs other than those of our own students. At this event, our very blessed and fortunate children are able to give back to another child instead of receiving something for themselves. Children first participate in various craft activities surrounding the holiday season. Then, tying into lessons taught in Community Class, each child is invited to give Santa a NEW gift that any child ages 0-18 might enjoy. The students learn that those gifts will be taken to the Ronald McDonald House for families to select some individual gifts that their own children might enjoy for Christmas. Parental attendance is not required for this event, but volunteers are requested and ANYONE is more than welcome to join us!

The SILENT AUCTION is an awesome event for parents, friends, and faculty (1st Sat in March). As Davenport’s main fundraiser, all proceeds go directly back to Davenport and ultimately the children. The evening is centered around a different theme each year, and though not mandatory, dressing according to the theme is STRONGLY encouraged. It is an excellent opportunity to meet the other parents in the school, learn their first names (as opposed to just being “Johnny’s mom”), network, and have some great adult conversation. All while raising money for the school!

TOUCH-A-TRUCK is held on a Saturday in the Spring. It is a fun family event open to anyone, not just Davenport families, and provides the opportunity for an interactive experience to touch, learn, and explore trucks, construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, and more.  This event also features outside vendors, selling food and various items. If anyone is interested in being a vendor, there is a registration form available through the office.

FAMILY FUN DAY (2nd Fri in June) is on the last day of school!!! All students must be chaperoned by a parent as teachers facilitate various arts & crafts activities and games throughout the building. There are two bouncy houses for the students to enjoy. Pizza is served for the students. It is a great way to wrap up the school year and be together as a school one last time. School closes at noon, and immediately following is the Pre-K celebration.
